HI,
Lesley Dixon’s photography can be viewed in the library’s community room during the month of April. Lesley is a professional photographer based in the Southern Adirondacks in Hadley, New York. Her philosophy about nature photography is, “There are so many beautiful things in nature that happen every moment of the day: I try to capture them to share those experiences with others.” Lesley is orginally from Port Jervis NY, but is now fortunate enough to call the Adirondacks her home.

New York artist Ann Larsen paints en plein air from the Adirondack Mountains, where she lives, to Maine and California as well as throughout the west. Her love of landscape draws her time and again to paint outdoors. Spending many hours in the field prepares Ann for working larger paintings in the studio from field studies and other references. She feels the landscape processs is more about what you don’t say then what you do say. Using lively brushstrokes and textural paint Ann interprets what nature provides.
Ann has won numerous awards and been in several solo and two person exhibitions. Most recently she was awarded Juror’s Coice at the Annual North Country Arts Council Show, Second Place in the Masters Division at the Central Adirondack Art Show, Old Forge, NY and Honorable Mention at ehe Outdoor Painters Salon, Southwest Gallery, Dallas, TX. Ann was honored with an invitation to paint at the Grand Canyon in the prestigious Plein Air on the Rim event in 2010. She is a member of American Impressionist Society, Outdoor Painters Society and a Signature Member of American Women Artists.
Her art will be on display during the month of August during normal business hours.

Our local artist of the month is Tim LaFave. He displays until Friday the 27th of April. Tim has been drawing and painting since childhood. Mostly self-taught, he works with various mediums, including oil, acrylic, pastels, transparent and opaque watercolors to name a few. He also creates hand-carved Adirondack character walking sticks.
His work has been on display at the Soave Faire Gallery in Saratoga Springs, but one will often find him painting on location in Congress Park and the gardens at Yaddo. With paintings spread out on display around him, spectators and prosepective collectors feel free to watch him at work and ask questions about his art and technique. He is also known as a quick-sketch artist, working at Cafe Lena’s on open-mic night, where he is just as likely to pick up his guitar and harmonica to entertain the house.
Time LaFave paints mostly in oil, painting directly on a cavas or board, without any preparatory drawing. Painting rapidly, most paintings are completed in under five hours.

Hi,
Come in to see the lovely display of mixed media images created by Carole Williams. A couple of my favorites are her oils of horses. Her exhibit will be up until the end of the month.
Carole says, “Drawing and painting have been a lifelong hobby. This probably began as a child creating paper dolls. To this day, I can spend hours doing a dog portrait, creating a painting from a photo I’ve taken somewhere, or just something that comes to mind.”
Carole has worked as a technical illlustrator for Airborne Instruments on Long Island and as an illustrator/designer for IBM. She is now retired and lives here in the Adirondacks.

David’s Photo Reflections

All my life, I’ve enjoyed being outdoors. I love traveling by canoe or on foot, exploring the wilderness, or the countryside, or cities. I enjoy solitary travel, and for many years I ‘travelled light’, without a camera, and kept only wonderful memories of my travels and explorations.
Several years ago, I decided to find a way to share what I see on these journeys and started to work with a digital camera to record some of the vistas and the details that capture my attention.
I especially enjoy photographing early in the morning and making images of the changing weather which plays such a big part in the character of places – those commonly visited as well as those that are not visited so much: Remote waterfalls, off-the-beaten-path parts of cities, and wanderings off any trails.
I hope that my images of the beautiful parts of the world, or the quirky ones, the things that move me to photograph, are interesting for others.
Enjoy my reflections!

HI
We have a new artist in the community room. Tracy Wall went to the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn. After graduation she did a self study in Europe. Now she has a small studio in her farmhouse in Porter Corners. But her first love has always been the Adirondack Mountains where she spent her childhood summers. Over the years she has never tired of the beauty of the moutains and her passion for horses. Her drawings and paintings reflect the emotional connection she feels with both of these as they play on the light and space within landscapes.
Tracy’s work will be shown for the month of June. Hopefully her work will recall special memories and feelings within the viewer.
