The Writer’s Guild is held on Tuesdays and Thursdays after school from November through March. The program has a different theme each month, covering topics such as creative writing, poetry, journalism, writing song lyrics, creating illustrations, and tall tales, while weaving in Transcendentalism into all. Each month the students host a “Coffeehouse” to celebrate by reading their work to family and the general public. Meetings are held at the Hadley-Luzerne Public Library. Please come shortly before 7:00 or use the side door.

Hi,
I attended the Warren County Board of Supervisors Meeting. It looks like the funding will get cut to $25,000. The decision has not been made yet. I was impressed. At the beginning of the meeting, public comments were allowed. Only four people (myself included) got up to speak. Each one wanted to talk about the library book aid and why it is important to them. So out of a multi-million dollar budget, we have people ready to speak up about $25,000 being cut for libraries. Maybe that is because libraries have trimmed the fat a long time ago. Any cuts really hurt us, we don’t have another pocket to go to.
Gene Merlino did tell me that he got a lot of emails and phone calls about not cutting library book aid. You all did a good job there. It would not hurt to call him one more time and say thanks. If you would like to help even more, you could call Frederick Monroe, Chairman of the Board of Supervisors at 761-6536. While he doesn’t MAKE the decision, his opinion counts. Thank you. You all did good with phone calls and emails, thank you.

Hi All,
On Tuesday Nov 10th the Warren County Board of Supervisors meets. They will be talking about book aid funding all libraries in Warren County. So far this funding has gone from $53,000 to $50,000 a year. Now they are talking about reducing that to $25,000 or even lower.
The amount each library gets is based on circulation. Crandall gets $30,000. We get about $2,500.00. Every other library in Warren county gets money as well. Even tho Crandall gets $30,000 the books they buy are available free to us through inter-library loan.
What can you do? Please call Gene Merlino at the town hall 696-2713. Just let him know you are concerned about funding for library book aid. One book goes out an average of 12 times (some a lot more). It is a good value for the money. Please be nice to Gene. The Town of Lake Luzerne and Gene are very supportive of the library.

Hi
The book of the month is Issac’s Storm by Erik Larson. Narrator Edward Herrmann brings an eerie calm to this powerful chronicle of the deadliest storm ever to hit the United States–a huge and terribly destructive hurricane that struck land near Galveston, Texas in September of 1900. Author Erik Larson re-creates the events leading up to the disaster in astonishing detail, tracing the thoughts and actions of Isaac Cline, a scientist with America’s burgeoning U.S. Weather Bureau.
This book will be discussed on November 10th. Get yours today!
